Graham Holmwood is the scientific father of the successful Bayer fungicide Folicur®. It was pure chance that brought this Englishman to Germany 35 years ago. There was a certain romantic interest, but he was also encouraged to travel by the economic crisis in the UK at the time. He has since synthesized over 10,500 substances and played a role in the development of Canesten® and Bayleton®. For him, chemistry has less to do with smelly, noisy laboratories and white coats; he perceives it as a broad and fascinating field.
A passion for chemical research
But Holmwood is not slowing down after all these successes. He’s still working on new chemistry. What he likes about Germany is the spontaneous, direct people – something that made an impression on him during his first visit – and its history. Read more about the genial chemist in our article.
