Every year, more than a million women all over the world develop breast cancer. The range of features which characterize different types of breast cancer is wide. Many types are dependent on hormones, while others need certain growth factors in order to spread. Researchers of Bayer HealthCare are working to develop tests that will help to ensure that the right therapy for a particular form of cancer is selected from the outset.
A special therapy for each patient
Bayer’s research team is working closely with university hospitals to identify biomarkers – molecules in the human body that will make it possible to diagnose the differences between tumor types. This project will produce a “fingerprint” specific to each tumor. Read on to find out how biomarkers can help to select effective and less invasive therapies that are tailored to the individual patient’s needs.
