Long-term ASA use may reduce the risk of colorectal cancer
Colorectal cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer. Lifestyles in the Western industrialized countries pose a particular risk, but a familial predisposition, inflammatory bowel disease and proliferating intestinal growths are also regarded as risk factors. The effects of ASA have been evaluated in a study involving more than 80,000 nurses over a period of 20 years. Scientists observed that the risk of colorectal cancer dropped by 23 percent on average. The following article relates how the active ingredient in Aspirin® can help in such cases, what dose is considered to be the most promising and what other risks exist.
