Plastics make holographic discs a reality
Long life for data
Protective lighting: to protect the sensitive Tapestry™ material, Dr. Rafael Oser and Dr. Friedrich-Karl Bruder work in low-energy red light.
Companies, authorities and private individuals have to store an ever-increasing volume of data. Heat, moisture and mechanical stress take their toll on the storage media, which is why this flood of data has to be constantly backed up onto new storage media. Thanks to an innovative storage medium developed jointly by Bayer MaterialScience and InPhase Technologies, data can now be securely stored for up to 50 years.
A wealth of data in an extremely small space
Thanks on hologram technology, a wealth of data can now be stored extremely quickly on an extremely small space. The new disc, which is called Tapestry™ can store as much data as 50 DVDs. Further details on Tapestry™ and information on the role played by lasers is contained in the following article.
