Dieter Freitag is a plastics researcher. And he is completely absorbed in his field, because he sees chemistry as an opportunity to create substances that no one has ever held in his hands before. Freitag has invented or helped to invent 429 patented substances, and his name is closely associated with the development of CDs and many other products used in everyday life. In 2006 Dieter Freitag received the highest accolade in the world of plastics chemistry: he was inducted into the Plastics Academy Hall of Fame.

Chemistry beats pharmacy

After graduating from high school, Dieter Freitag originally wanted to become a pharmacist. Eventually, however, he succumbed to the fascination of organic molecules. After being awarded a doctorate, he came directly to Bayer, where he invented innovative materials for more than 30 years with tremendous enthusiasm.
