Cystic fibrosis is caused by a genetic defect and varies in severity between patients, depending on exactly where the gene is damaged. However, the disorder always reduces lung function and makes the airways susceptible to bacterial infections. Mainly Caucasian people from Europe, North America and Australia are affected. About 70,000 cystic fibrosis patients around the world depend on drugs, physiotherapy and inhalation therapy throughout their lives.

Help for young patients

The drug is inhaled directly into the lungs where it can combat bacterial pathogens.
