Climate change represents one of the biggest global challenges of our time. That it is of concern to our very youngest citizens was proven by the 18th International Children’s Painting Competition on the Environment organized by Bayer and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) together with other project partners. More than 2.4 million children from almost 100 countries took part this year. Third place was awarded to 11-year-old Vanessa Yokoo Mori Oda from Brazil for the picture illustrated here.

The articles show the solutions that materials experts from Bayer MaterialScience are offering for climate protection: for example, they are working on projects for environmentally sound construction, developing new materials that can reduce fuel consumption in cars, and endeavoring to revolutionize heat insulation with the aid of nanofoams. With nanomaterials they are also making wind turbines more efficient and aircraft more lightweight, and developing solar cells that can simply be stuck on window panes.
